Ballarat’s population is rapidly growing and we need to future-proof the city’s transport network and plan for the long term.

The Ballarat Integrated Transport Action Plan outlines actions the City of Ballarat can take to improve the transport systems it owns or manages, including footpaths, bicycle infrastructure and local roads.

It also recommends advocacy actions we can take to request improvements to parts of the transport system the State Government owns or manages, including major roads, freeways and highways, bus services and train lines.

The plan outlines 16 key future directions for the city over the long-term and includes 6 immediate priorities:

  1. Review and overhaul Ballarat's bus network
  2. Advocate for city shaping infrastructure upgrades
  3. Advocate for seamless, reliable and convenient fast rail between Ballarat and Melbourne
  4. Focus current projects to deliver safe, accessible, enjoyable walking and cycling routes
  5. Pilot new transport options and opportunities
  6. Support regional transport advocacy activities
