Project background

The Ballarat Strategy (2015) identified the need to undertake further work to define Living Corridors and to ensure that natural values throughout Ballarat are managed well. The development of an action plan to improve biodiversity and habitat links across the east of Ballarat has emerged as a key community priority through the recently adopted Ballarat East Local Area Plan, emerging projects of Brown Hill Local Area Plan and Buninyong Township Plan, and the recent establishment of the Woowookarung Regional Park by Parks Victoria.

What is the Living Corridors Action Plan?

It is anticipated that the Living Corridors Action Plan will be comprised of goals, strategies and actions to better protect natural values such as vegetation and biodiversity throughout the identified eastern biodiversity corridor. The City of Ballarat is working with the Living Corridors Action Plan Community Working Group to prepare the Living Corridors Action Plan. The Living Corridors Action Plan will include actions that can be delivered by the City of Ballarat, State Agencies, landowners, developers and the community.

How can I be involved?

The draft Living Corridors Action Plan is anticipated to be available for comments and feedback on Mysay in mid 2020. There will also be opportunities to provide comments and feedback on the draft at a number of community drop in sessions.

Next steps

  • The City of Ballarat will work with the Working Group to develop goals, strategies and actions for the project and to prepare the draft Living Corridors Action Plan.
  • Consultation on the draft Action Plan is anticipated to take place in mid-2020.
