Social Policy Framework
The creation of a ‘Social Policy Framework' is a priority project within the 2017-21 Council Plan. The Framework will provide guidance for the development of policy which impacts on community wellbeing, through the consideration of a consistent set of principles, approaches, roles and responsibilities.
Six initial position statements will be developed following the adoption of the Framework to articulate Council's position on specific social issues. The statements will bring together current adopted policy from across Council strategic documents and identify roles and key messages.
As identified in the Council Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, the first position statements to be developed will include:
access to affordable and nutritious food
affordable housing
alcohol and other drugs
preventing gambling harm
promoting mental wellbeing
promoting active living.
We have used the information and feedback from the community from the consultation activities conducted between the 21st September and 21st of October 2018 to amend the Framework and it will now go to Council on the 21st of November.
