Help us shape the vision for this important piece of work that will improve the amenity of this precinct and reinforce the Ballarat Station as a destination for travellers and a point of entry to Ballarat for the many people that visit by train.
This is an urban renewal project that seeks to protect and celebrate the Railway heritage and provide opportunities to develop and renew the precinct.
The Project:
This is a joint project between City of Ballarat and Victrack - managed by the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA).
The project deals specifically with the land south of the Railway Station and between the railway line and the land along Mair Street from Lydiard Street to Peel Street.
Future use opportunities may include commercial, civic, tourism and residential projects.
It is part of a broader suite of strategies borne of the Ballart CBD Strategy 2010 that seek to activate parts of the CBD and improve opportunities for development and liveability.
The Masterplan seeks to unlock the potential of the Railway land and the adjoining private properties to support development and activation of the precinct. Much of this land is well placed to capitalise in its CBD location and proximity to the Station and the other benefits that arise form CBD living.
Council supports an active and comprehensive engagement and encourages input into the process from the community.
Project objectives:
- Preserve and celebrate the important heritage of the area.
- Establish better and safer connection between the station and its surrounds for the community and visitors.
- Redesign public spaces to be more accessible, comfortable, safe and inviting for all people.
- Support the precinct as it becomes a commercial, civic and tourism destination
- Provide certainty for the community about potential future development opportunities and will give developers the confidence to continue to invest in the Ballarat CBD.
- Transform the precinct into a new destination for Ballarat, that will attract investment, jobs and new commercial opportunities into the city.

Feedback heard during this phase of consultation will be summarised in a Vision and Key Directions Report that will be published and inform the preparation of the draft master plan.
