In July 2021, the Brown Hill Progress Association (BHPA) undertook some initial community engagement to understand the community appetite for changes to the Brown Hill Reserve. Brown Hill Reserve is located off Humffray Street North in Brown Hill. Currently it is home to a pool, playground, several buildings and a cricket oval.

The results of this engagement showed a high degree of support for redevelopment of the Reserve with focus in the following areas:

  • Theme - maintaining and enhancing the overall theme of the reserve
  • Pool - the future of the pool and/or options for it's replacement
  • Recreational Infrastructure - skate park, splash park, basketball half-court, improved play space
  • Community Infrastructure - stage, toilet block, off-lead dog park, buildings
  • Connections - within the Reserve and to other nearby facilities (For example: Yarrowee River Trail)
  • Greening - trees, garden beds, community garden.

Over the coming months, the City of Ballarat will undertake additional engagement based on these results to test and expand the ideas with the goal of creating a Masterplan for Brown Hill Reserve. This Masterplan will be a guiding document that clarifies and identifies improvements and future projects for the Reserve and will be used by Council to inform future capital works, pending availability of funding.

We've created three ways to start the conversation.

  • Short Survey - The short survey asks questions about how you currently use the Reserve, what you like and dislike about the Reserve and what improvements you would like to see. If you participated in the BHPA survey, you may have already answered some of these questions before. This survey takes about 5 minutes.
  • Deep Dive - This longer survey asks specific questions about potential projects and why you support or don't support them or how you would like to see things actioned in the future. This survey takes about 15 minutes.
  • Community Drop-In Session on 28 June 2022 at 4-7pm in the Pavilion at the Reserve (Reid Court, Brown Hill).

Please take a moment to complete one or both surveys. Results from the surveys will be used to inform the development of a Draft Masterplan. This pre-drafting round of community engagement will close on 15 July 2022.

The draft Masterplan will be open for consultation in future months. Click on our 'Stay Informed' option on the menu on the right to keep informed about future consultation opportunities.
