Update:
Since the last community engagement activities on the Township Plan, a draft Background Paper has been prepared with valuable input from the community on key issues and preliminary directions. However, with recent concerns raised by community members and Councillors about how landscape and neighbourhood character is managed as the city grows, the strategic planning program has been reviewed. As a result, some new projects have been added to the Council’s program to ensure that environmental and character management objectives can be achieved.
Particularly important to the Buninyong Township Plan will be a city-wide Neighbourhood Character Study – identifying character across the city and how character should be protected. Also, a Living Corridor Protection Study will review planning scheme controls relating to vegetation and environmental significance, including the koala overlay, and how these interrelate with the bushfire overlay controls.
Due to the benefit of having this additional work undertaken first, a decision has been made to delay completion of the Buninyong Township Plan until this new program of works has been completed. These projects will provide extremely useful information to guide the management of character and environmental values within Buninyong.
Further information will be provided on the City of Ballarat MySay webpage and in future Community Newsletters.
