About the Project

City of Ballarat has responded to the request from residents and stakeholders to review the Burrumbeet Creek Flood Study which was last updated in 2013. The investigation is funded by the Victorian Government under the Regional Flood Risk Reduction Grant Program and will be completed in June 2027.

The revision and upgrade of the 2013 investigation will include the stormwater network, comply with current industry standards and assessment of both the riverine flooding from the Burrumbeet Creek and stormwater flooding in urban areas.

This level of investigation will rely heavily on community input and provide a more accurate and reliable picture of flood behaviour.

About the Consultants

Water Technology (WT) has been engaged by City of Ballarat, following a competitive tender process, to undertake the flood investigation.

WT also served as the lead consultant for the recently completed Ballarat 11 Waterways Flood Study within the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority area.

How Will Community Feedback Contribute to the Project?

The flood information collected from residents and stakeholders will contribute to the review and upgrade to the Burrumbeet Creek Flood Study.

The outcome of an updated study will:

  • guide the design and delivery of the Miners Rest Flood Mitigation project, running in parallel with the Burrumbeet Creek Flood Study
  • updated flood risk related planning controls in the Ballarat Planning Scheme
  • updated flood information for emergency response planning
  • inform mitigation strategies

There are four opportunities across the life of the project for the community to be involved and provide valuable information and experiences. See the timeline to the right for approximate dates of the opportunities.
