Ballarat is ready to do the work required to build a safe and sustainable community for current and future generations. The Ballarat Net Zero Emissions Plan outlines commitments of the Ballarat community to deliver net zero emissions by 2030.

The plan builds on the work that the City of Ballarat and wider community are already undertaking to reduce emissions in order to achieve an environmentally sustainable future.

Emissions in Ballarat were estimated to total 1.5 million tonnes in 2020. To reach net zero emissions by 2030 requires a bold and challenging approach. The stakeholders involved in the development of this Plan recognise the urgency to act and support Council’s resolution for an aspirational target of net zero emissions by 2030. It reflects a recognition of what is required to address the climate emergency.

Achieving the ambitious target of net zero emissions by 2030 will require substantial action by the Victorian and Australian Governments beyond currently planned actions and targets, as well as from the Ballarat community.

The Plan identifies key areas of action for the Ballarat community to transition to net zero emissions, including business, home, new developments, transport and waste.
