The City of Ballarat received a request from a Lake Gardens resident to acknowledge the history of the estate as the former Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital site.

In response, the City of Ballarat have been working closely with the Lake Gardens Action Group Committee (LGAG2 Committee) to involve residents in deciding how best to acknowledge this through heritage interpretation and storytelling.

At a recent community discussion with more than 50 residents present, strong views were expressed both for and against promoting the history of the site.

As part of the next phase of community consultation, a survey has been developed to provide more residents and local community members an opportunity to have their say.

The City of Ballarat is committed to achieving a suitable compromise between the site’s contemporary character as a residential estate, while also acknowledging the historical significance it has for many people a key component of achieving this is through community consultation.

Join in the discussion by filling out the below survey. The survey will be open from Monday 25 June to Monday 6 August 2018, and will help determine the next steps for the project.
