Len T Frazer Skatepark - Update

13 May 2026

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on the proposed upgrade to the Len T Frazer Skatepark.

We heard from the community through online contributions, in-person sessions, and targeted engagement with local users and nearby residents. In total, 93 people provided feedback via MySay, supported by strong participation across workshops and other engagement activities.

What we heard

Overall, there was strong support for expanding and upgrading the skatepark to better cater for all ages and skill levels. People valued having a more diverse range of features and a design that supports progression from beginner to advanced users.

Key themes included:

  • A desire for more shade and shelter to improve comfort in Ballarat’s weather
  • Strong interest in lighting to increase safety and usability
  • The importance of high-quality surfaces and good design flow
  • Support for a more inclusive and welcoming space with better amenities
  • Interest in features that reflect local identity, such as art or community elements

What we’re doing

Your feedback has directly shaped updates to the skatepark design. This includes:

  • Adding shade structures and seating areas within the skate area, along with tree planting where possible
  • Refining the layout and skate elements to improve safety, flow and usability
  • Designing for inclusiveness, with clearer zones and better accessibility
  • Incorporating a broader mix of features to suit different skating styles and abilities

What we can’t do right now

Some ideas raised by the community are not able to be delivered as part of this project due to site constraints and available funding.

This includes:

  • Skatepark lighting, which is limited by heritage considerations and budget
  • Broader upgrades such as toilets, expanded seating and landscaping, which will be considered through future planning and Council’s Open Space Strategy

What’s next

We are updating the design to reflect what we heard from the community while balancing practical constraints. The project will now move forward with delivering a safer, more inclusive and better-quality skatepark that meets the needs of Ballarat’s growing skating community.

Further improvements to the surrounding reserve will continue to be explored as part of longer-term planning.
