Main Road Draft Plan Community Survey

Main Road Ballarat

Main Road is set to be ‘reimagined’ and revitalised with the introduction of new interpretive and streetscape works to encourage more visitors to the area.

The City of Ballarat has developed a draft plan for Main Road, between Little Bridge Street and Humffray Street, based on preliminary feedback received from local traders and property owners.

The Main Road Draft Plan outlines strategies to strengthen the street’s heritage and identity, become more pedestrian-friendly and contribute to improving the city’s overall streetscape.

Download the Main Road Draft Plan and let us know what you think?

You can view the plan and provide feedback until 5pm, Monday 7 August.

The following points are key objectives for the Main Road area – please indicate how well you think the proposed concept design achieves these objectives? Excellent Good Neutral Needs Improving Poor
Interpreting the stories of Main Road as an important place within the Bakery Hill precinct
Supporting hospitality and retail businesses to increase outdoor dining/trading areas
‘Greening’ the area
Improving the amenity for visitors/workers
Maintain or increase the number of car parking spaces
Encourage night-time visitation through lighting design
Safer for pedestrians and cyclists

The proposed concept design includes a change from a double-lane to a single-lane direction on Main Road to accommodate increased parking, larger outdoor dining and trading areas, additional trees, and safer pedestrian and cycling facilities. Recent traffic counts indicate approximately 90 per cent of all cars currently using the area are travelling towards the CBD.

A central part of the project is interpreting the stories of Main Road through a variety of light, sound and art installations.
