About Rizal Park

Rizal Park is a neighbourhood park located in Invermay Park. The reserve connects with Curragh Court, Cashel Court and Ashford Court.

What's happening?

Rizal Park was dedicated to José Rizal in 1999 and each year, the Filipino community gather at Rizal Park, to celebrate. Dr Jose Rizal was a Filipino nationalist, writer, anthropologist and educator. His passion for truth, freedom and justice contributed to the ending of the colonial period in the Philippines. His work inspired many freedom movements in the region in the decades to come.

The City of Ballarat, in collaboration with the Filippino community, is working to provide all-weather access between Ashford and Cashiel Courts and relocate the plaque. This will allow the annual celebration to be carried out in a new, safer area as well as creating a tranquil resting point within the park for the local community. The first stage of the project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024. The consular general will visit on 19th June 2024 to open the new gathering space.
