New Road Name Proposed for Prince of Wales Recreation Reserve

The City of Ballarat intends to name the roadway within the Prince of Wales Recreation Reserve located at Gillies Road, LAKE GARDENS VIC 3355. The unnamed road is located opposite Ballarat Botanical Gardens and Lake Wendouree Reserve and provide access to the seven sporting facilities.

Location of the road to be named in red.

Why is this necessary?

The nature of the activities operating in the precinct increases the likelihood of an emergency occurring, and the need for a specific address location to be determined. This proposal will provide accurate street addressing for the seven sporting facilities within the precinct to ensure effective incident management and public safety.

Working with the Traditional Owners

City of Ballarat is committed to reconciliation, working positively today and into the future with the Wadawurrung (Traditional Owners) and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to learn, acknowledge and move forward together. In continuing this commitment, it is proposed that the unnamed roadway within the Prince of Wales Recreation Reserve be named Kunuwarra Drive (prounounced Koo-noo-warrah) is deemed appropriate as the name translates to ‘black swan’ in native Wadawurrung language, as support by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.
