Project Overview

Llanberris Reserve, located at York Street, Golden Point, is at the start of a new chapter. With competitive athletics moving to its new home at the Ballarat Major Events Precinct, we have a rare opportunity to reimagine Llanberris Reserve.

We are asking community members and community groups to reimagine what Llanberris Reserve can become - how it feels to visit, how they might like to use it, and how they would like it to support connection, health, wellbeing and provide community benefit. By getting involved now, you're helping to create a future for Llanberris Reserve that is genuinely reflective of how the community want to use and enjoy the space.

Llanberris Reserve sits above the original Llanberris No. 1 mine shaft, constructed in the 1800s, which means there are some physical limitations as to what changes can be made, however even with some site limitations, there are many elements of the design where community input will directly impact the outcome.

How you can be involved

We are asking the community to share their vision and priorities, as we reimagine the future of Llanberris Reserve. There are a number of ways that you can share your ideas including:

  • Complete the community survey below and have your say. You can fill it out online or request a printed copy to share how you reimagine the future of Llanberris Reserve.
  • Visit an onsite Llanberris Reserve Engagement Session: There are many opportunities to walk and talk the Reserve. Come and share your ideas on how the site could be reimagined.
    • Session times are:
      • Wednesday 29 April 4.30pm to 6pm
      • Saturday 9 May 11am to 1pm (Community Open Day)
      • Wednesday 20 May, 10am to 11.30am and 4.30pm to 6pm
  • Attend the Community Open Day: Come and have fun on the Reserve, enjoy a free sausage sizzle and activities and imagine what the Reserve could become. The Community Open Day will be held Saturday 9 May from 11am to 1pm on the Reserve.
  • Follow the project: Click the Follow button below and we will send you regular updates straight to your inbox.

In addition to these activities, we will be holding conversations with a broad range of community members including nearby residents, kindergarten and school-aged children, youth, current site users and those with connections to the Reserve, community organisations and state government representatives, to get a broader understanding of what the best future use of the site might be.

Are you a community group?

If your community group is interested in playing a part in the future activation of the Llanberris Reserve, we encourage you to join one of the two tours hosted onsite. Tours will be conducted on:

  • Monday 27 April 11.30am to 12 noon
  • Wednesday 20 May 5.30pm to 6pm

Complete the short form below to register your interest in activating the Llanberris Reserve Pavilion.

Next steps

At the end of this first engagement stage, we will review the feedback that the community has shared to understand what matters most for the future of Llanberris Reserve. The feedback will help shape a shared vision and guide priorities for actions over time. A community engagement summary will be prepared and published to show what we heard, and how it's being used, and we will keep the community informed as the project moves into the next stage.
