BMX and Skate consultation event feedback - March 11th 2021

Thanks so much to all of the people who came to the skate and BMX community event that was held on March 11th at the Wendouree West Rec Reserve! It was a great night with over 100 people coming along to take part in the activities including:

  • Consultation by Common Ground on the draft concept plan for the BMX Pump Track including the mark up of the approximate track area on the ground
  • Gathering of preferences of skate elements and delivery of skate clinics by the Victorian Skateboarding Association
  • Community BBQ delivered by Wendouree Neighbourhood House
  • Forest Rangers junior training on site
  • YMCA Recranked workshop activities
  • Information about the broader project including indicative timelines and site map and street soccer examples

Check out the 'Documents' section on the right hand side of the page to see the information gathered from the community about the BMX pump track concept design and the skateable elements that people would prefer to have at the site. And have a look at the photos in the 'Photos from March 11 Event' section on the right, down the page a little!

What next?

Using the feedback that people have provided, the BMX Pump Track design will be finalised. The landscape design will also be developed and will consider how some of the skate elements that people wanted to see can be included. Once these are complete we will share them with you on this page. For more information about the timeline of the overall project and the site plan please have a look in the 'Documents' folder on the right of the page!

What’s happening?

New youth facilities are being delivered at the Wendouree West Recreation Reserve including:

  • BMX pump track
  • Street soccer zone
  • Skate elements within the landscaping

We are wanting ideas from young people about:

  1. Lay-out and design of the BMX pump track
  2. Colour/design of walls of street soccer zone
  3. Skate elements as part of landscaping
  4. What else would make the Reserve a great place
