The City of Ballarat is planning to install a stormwater litter trap across the Yarrowee River (Yaramlok). Have your say about how this could look.

The litter trap is planned to be installed in the Sunnyside Mill precinct - a key access point to the Yarrowee River Trail.

The planned litter trap is designed to capture and prevent more than 70 per cent of rubbish, debris and other pollutants from flowing through the river system using proven Gross Pollutant Trap technologies (GPTs). The project will:

  1. Achieve significant environmental outcomes for the Yarrowee River and to the Leigh and Barwon Rivers further downstream
  2. Reduce the impact of litter on visitor enjoyment downstream along the Yarrowee River
  3. Improve the efficiency of other waterway restoration efforts within the Sunnyside Mill precinct and further downstream, and
  4. Seek to minimise impacts to cultural heritage values, while delivering maximum benefits downstream.

Litter traps are used across Australia and world-wide to remove rubbish and pollutants from rivers and waterways, which improves water quality and benefits plants and animals.
