What's happening?

The City has been working with the community to determine the needs of the park and what improvements are to be made at Cardigan Village Reserve. Lively and collaborative engagement sessions have provided a range of ideas which helped create the draft concept. The City reviewed these proposals and used the feedback to create the final concept plan. Over the last few months, the design has been undergoing detailed documentation and the various elements have been procured.

The City of Ballarat will be commencing the neighbourhood park upgrade at Cardigan Village soon with the first phase works of the neighbourhood park upgrade commencing in September. The works will be undertaken as part of the Neighbourhood Parks Program, supported by a Tiny Towns Grant.

Feedback Summary

The feedback received from the community was largely supportive of the proposal. Below is what you told us:

  • You requested an upgraded pump track

The City of Ballarat will engage an experienced pump track designer to undertake further engagement with the community before any construction works are done. Dates will be set to engage with key target groups to ensure a collaborative design is achieved. We can confirm that the new pump track will be constructed with asphalt surfacing.

  • You requested a reserve catering for all

The final concept design will cater to a range of ages and abilities, providing various recreation options including, exercise equipment, nature/art trail and walking circuit and connecting walking paths. The addition of seating around the track will provide the opportunity to rest as needed depending on levels of ability and fitness.

Picnic tables in a range of locations will provide increased opportunities for gathering. Seats will be provided with back rests and arms for support.

  • You asked us for more playground slides

The community provided feedback about the way they wanted to play with the request for additional slides to be incorporated into the final design.

  • You asked us to provide a public drinking fountain

We will explore the provision of a drinking fountain with Central Highlands Water.

  • You asked for additional recreational activities

The final design will see one tennis court and a netball and basketball halfcourt with additional line markings to support a range of sporting activities, including pickleball. The City of Ballarat will undertake remediation of the courts during the 26/27 financial year as part of the hardcourt surface renewal program. This will form stage 2 of the project.

  • You asked us to provide more shade and greening

The community supported any opportunity to provide shade. The final design will provide additional shade through tree planting, along the circuit pathway and around the playground. The community was also very supportive of the sensory garden.

  • CFA & walking path alignment

We have worked with the Cardigan/Windermere Fire Brigade to re-align the walking path to ensure safe and clear access is maintained.
