The City has been working with the community to determine the needs of the park and what improvements are to be made at Cardigan Village Reserve. Lively and collaborative engagement sessions have provided a range of ideas which helped create the draft concept. The City reviewed these proposals and used the feedback to create the final concept plan. Over the last few months, the design has been undergoing detailed documentation and the various elements have been procured.

The City of Ballarat will be commencing the neighbourhood park upgrade at Cardigan Village soon with the first phase works of the neighbourhood park upgrade commencing in September. The works will be undertaken as part of the Neighbourhood Parks Program, supported by a Tiny Towns Grant.

Phase 1 improvements, commencing in September 2025, will include:

• New asphalted BMX Track

The City of Ballarat will be running a final targeted engagement session with local families and children who are interested in learning about the BMX track design in the next couple of weeks. This will be an opportunity to meet the designer, explore the new track elements and assist in finalising the track design. An online session will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 5pm (Register your interest) and a drop-in session will be held on site on Friday, September 5 between 3 – 5pm at the reserve. Phase 2 improvements, commencing in late 2025 / early 2026, will include:

• New playground and associated furniture elements.
• Improved pathway connections around the reserve to encourage walking.
• Improved gathering areas for the families that use the space.
• A sensory garden / space to be set up for collaborative use with the Kindergarten children.
• Extensive planting of trees and understorey planting area for environmental benefits.

Final phase of improvements, commencing in the 26/27 financial year, will include:

• Remediation of the tennis courts during as part of the hardcourt surface renewal program.
