Investing in our community

Every year, Council’s budget funds the services, projects and infrastructure that support daily life in Ballarat. Around 70% of revenue is used to deliver more than 80 everyday services - from collecting kerbside bins and maintaining local roads, to running early learning centres, libraries and community health services. The other 30% is invested in capital works such as new facilities and major upgrades.

Council also manages almost $2.5 billion in community assets, including theatres, parks, sporting facilities and civic buildings. Maintaining and upgrading these assets ensures they continue to serve a growing city.

Projects like the redevelopment of the Central Library demonstrate how the budget invests in both preserving valued community spaces and building for the future. This project is transforming a much-loved public facility into a modern, accessible library and learning centre that will meet the needs of Ballarat’s community for generations to come
