Community support for naming the C.E. Brown netball courts after Sally McLean

4 December 2025

Sally McLean kneels with a Lake Wendouree netball team celebrating a premiership win. The players are wearing green and yellow uniforms, smiling and holding a trophy, with medals around their necks.

Thank you to everyone who left feedback on the commemorative naming proposal to name the courts at C.E Brown Reserve the Sally McLean Courts.

  • What we heard

We received 45 submissions, and the majority (100%) of feedback supported the proposed name. All submitters will be contacted directly with a formal response.

  • What's next

The naming proposal will be presented to Council on 25 February 2026 for a resolution to adopt the name. If adopted, it will then be lodged with Geographic Names Victoria the following week. Once the proposal is lodged, members of the public can still make a formal objection appeal directly to Geographic Names Victoria.

Objections must be in writing and meet the requirements of the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria (2022 Edition), such as concerns about:

  • Council did not consider the objections during its deliberations
  • the proposal does not reasonably conform to the naming rules.

Appeals must be sent to:

  • Registrar of Geographic Names, Geographic Names Victoria, Department of Transport and Planning, GPO BOX 2392, Melbourne, Victoria 3001 or via email to geo.names@transport.vic.gov.au.

Please note that appeals that do not respond/address one of the two points above are not considered.
