The City of Ballarat is growing. By 2041 our population is predicted to increase by 55,000 people. To support this growth the City of Ballarat needs to proactively plan to facilitate housing, industry growth and job creation.

Greenfield developments will provide capacity for part of this growth. However, in order for the City of Ballarat to be both economically and environmentally sustainable, a proportion of that growth will need to be absorbed within urban areas where infrastructure, networks and services are established.

The Ballarat Housing Strategy 2041 identified three urban renewal areas with estimated capacity for future housing growth. These three distinct precincts are being investigated further to test the estimations made in the strategy and develop long-term plans that consider options like rezoning, improving amenity and identifying transport and/or infrastructure needs.
